How to Borrow Money

It is now easier than ever before to borrow money and with careful management this can be useful when planning your personal finances.

Of course the amount you wish to borrow is your first consideration but there are other things you should think about. These include the purpose of the loan, how much you can afford to repay each month, the repayment period, whether you need repayment protection insurance. Also you may have other questions such as is there an arrangement fee and what would happen if you wish to pay off the debt early? Will you have to pay any penalty charges? All these factors affect loan comparisons. Of course don't forget to compare new loans with any existing loans to find out if you can get a better deal. Perhaps the options offered by some consolidation loans would be preferable to the existing credit arrangements you currently have.

Homeowners

If you own property you could consider a secured loan. A secured loan is in general cheaper than an unsecured loan as it presents a lower risk to the lender. However you may not be comfortable with putting your home at risk. An unsecured loan does not require any collateral but if you get into difficulties with repayments then your credit rating will be affected. This could give you problems getting credit in the future. In general you are likely to pay less interest in total on a shorter term loan.
